| About the Incarnation Series | |||
| The majority of the self-portraits for my artworks in this website were taken by me, the rest by my husband, Michael, who is a professional photographer. Prior to starting this series, I created my Breast Perspective series, done in 1999. I wanted to do something fun and silly with breasts - which in our culture are considered erotic - and do un-erotic things with them. Those artworks are pretty crude looking, as I was just learning how to use paint programs, but I still got a lot of nice mail about them, and it was more the concepts rather than the techniques I wanted to present. My cat Marty got into the act around that time, when he saw me put my breasts on the scanner - he sat on it, trying to catch the lighted bar in the scanner - and thus: My Cat's Butt was created. Some have asked why I had to be nude in my Incarnation Series artwork. The reason is simple - clothes get in the way, sometimes create their own statement, and can be dating. It is difficult to wear clothing, and be a mermaid, half-horse, etc. I break that rule in a few cases here, though. In 2003, I won the Coastal Arts League's "Best in Show" for "The Repentant", one of my works in this series, and "Rubber Ducky Sinister Landlord" was chosen for the Body Scapes #3 ( June 2008 ) issue of the online publication: Anti-Dull Magazine. Like most artists, I create exclusively for my own self-expression. My art has run the gamut from drawings, painting, 3 dimensional artworks, animations, custom-made stuffed animals, and comics. If anyone else can find interest or enjoyment in my creations, it's an added bonus. I do thank you for taking the time to look at my artwork here! - Deb Wong |
